During the hot summer days in Los Angeles we often spend more time outdoors at the beach, in the pool or at BBQs. The sun’s ultraviolet (UV) radiation can have long lasting effects on eye health when eyes go unprotected. UV exposure can lead to more rapid onset of cataracts, abnormal growth on the eye surface, skin cancer around the eyelid, and macular degeneration. Often times, the damage is gradual and unnoticeable. It is important for both adults and children to wear sunglasses to protect their eyes even during overcast days.
